Although I love all things magical and metaphysical, I find that my style is often quite different from what I find readily available in the local shops. Where are the quirky incense holders? The pastel-colored runes? What is with those little mesh organza bags that every shop seems to have an abundance of? (If you know, you know.)
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve purchased a lot of mass-produced items for my own practice. But there’s something so satisfying about having tools and resources that match my style and my intentions.
If you feel the same, you should give some of these witchy DIYs a try. Utilize them in your practice, or give them as gifts to witchy friends.
Let’s dig in!
01. Tarot Wrap & Spread Cloth
Protect your deck from dirt—and bad energy—with this tarot wrap that doubles as a spread cloth. This is perfect for anyone who takes their deck everywhere they go. You’ll never again need to worry about finding a clean surface for your reading; just unwrap the deck, spread out the cloth, and you’re good to go!
02. Nature-Inspired Clay Candle Holder
I love utilizing nature-inspired decor in my practice. It can be simple to do, like with this gorgeous little leaf-shaped tealight holder. If you like working with clay, why not give this project a try?
03. Small Snap Pouch (for discreet crystal storage!)
Not all “witchy” crafts have to be immediately obvious. I made a bunch of these small snap bags a while back to hold various crystals so they aren’t loose in the bottom of my purse. Why not make a green pouch to carry around some prosperity-enhancing stones like citrine and pyrite, or a purple pouch to carry around stones like amethyst for their calming properties?
04. Rune Stones
While no one knows exactly when runes were first used, what we do know is that they’ve been around for almost two thousand years–at least! Sure, you could buy a set at the store, but why not make some of your own? This tutorial will show you exactly how to do it. And aren’t they stunning?
05. Essential Oils Pouch
If you work with essential oils, or make your own oil blends, this carrying pouch is great for keeping them safe on the go. It can hold up to three roller bottles. Why not make this (entry number one on the list!), and a tarot spread cloth, as a matching set? What a great gift for your witchy friends!
06. DIY Incense Holder
I don’t know about you, but I always see the same wooden incense holders when I’m shopping for new incense sticks. And they’re perfectly fine—inexpensive and easy to find. But they’re not particularly unique. If you prefer pieces that are more in tune with you and your energy, why not make your own incense stick holders?
07. Pendulum Board
Pendulums have been in use since at least 400 BCE and they’re still a popular divination tool today. Many people make their own pendulums–why not make your own pendulum board too? Check out the tutorial!
08. Clay Altar/Shrine
If you need a space to set up your herbs, crystals, or offerings, why not consider making your own altar? You can use polymer clay or air dry clay (or ceramic if you have a kiln) to create something beautiful and unique to your practice. Use different colors of clay, or paint runes, symbols or other designs after the clay is dry.
09. Broom (“Witches Broom”)
If you use a broom (“besom”) in your practice, or want to start, why not make your own? Besoms are associated with cleaning and purification, and they have been used for centuries as ritual tools. Making a broom might seem daunting, but it doesn’t have to be! Anyone can do it!
10. Felt Moon Phase Wall Art
This moon phase banner tutorial/pattern is simple… Think of it as a jumping-off point to make something unique to you! You can use other fabrics, other colors, other threads, etc. You could also try adding a little stuffing inside to make your moons a bit plumper or add some nicely scented herbs to add a little fragrance to the air. I’ve created a free pattern for you too! Just click the button below to go to the post.
Will you try any of these Witchy DIY projects?
There’s something so satisfying about making projects that you can use. (Of course, you can gift these, too!) Handmade projects like these add personality to your rituals and your practice more generally.
