Crafting can be expensive. Between materials, tools, and patterns, the costs can be a deterrent to some—and a source of significant stress for others.
Luckily, while there may not be an abundance of opportunities for free materials and tools, there are tons of places where one can find free patterns and tutorials—saving you money on your crafting habit.
Of course, I have some free patterns here on the blog (check them out here!) but I’m only one person. I can only create so many patterns at a time.
This is where Facebook groups can shine.
Let’s Talk Facebook Groups
Facebook is more than just a place to keep up with friends and family who live far away. Facebook is home to hundreds of thousands of groups where like-minded people can get together and share resources. While there are tons of people promoting their paid resources, there are also thousands of people sharing what they know at no cost.
I’ve compiled some of the biggest Facebook groups that cater to these people. Groups that are full of free patterns for you to try out.
The nice thing about these groups, beyond the free patterns of course, is that if you get stuck or have trouble with a pattern there are lots of people there who might have tips or suggestions. These groups work best when you give more than you take—so if you join them, try to engage and help out others when you can!
Important Note
Just because a pattern is free for personal use doesn’t mean it’s free for commercial use. If you find a pattern you love in one of these free groups and want to use it to make stock for a market or your Etsy shop, make sure that the maker of the pattern is okay with that! Usually, the pattern or the post will say, but if it doesn’t, connect with the maker. It’s the respectful thing to do.
Now let’s get into the groups! They’re broken down into project types—sewing, crochet, knit, clay, etc. You’re sure to find a group you’ll want to join!
