Horror movie fans are a devout bunch. So are crafters—which is why I’ve created this list of DIY projects that are perfect for fans of all things horror.
Whether you like the classics, slasher films, psychological horror, or any of the other subgenres, you’re sure to find something on this list of DIYs that’ll get you excited about crafting.
Let’s get into the list!
13 Terrifying Horror DIY Projects That Will Chill You to the Bone
01. Crochet Pennywise Doll
If you crochet—and love horror movies!—this Pennywise doll would be a perfect project for you! The details in this pattern are amazing, and the finished product is hauntingly creepy. This crochet doll would look great on your bookshelf, but it also makes an awesome gift for the horror fan in your life.
02. “Bleeding” Candles
Although this is a straightforward DIY, the finished product is phenomenal. And when you burn the candle, it’ll look even creepier! It may look bloody while dry, but imagine how much more so it’ll look when that red wax is wet and dripping!
03. Polymer Clay Horror Tools
If you love making things with polymer clay, these clay cutters will make fantastic horror-themed earrings. This is a 3D print file so you can print your own cutters, but the designer of this particular file (CraftuniCutters) can also print and ship physical cutters to you if you don’t have access to a 3D printer.
04. Creepy/Horror Baby Doll
This is a simple DIY but the end product is truly horrifying. I would not want to wake up and find this doll anywhere near me. It is a perfect addition to haunted houses, horror-themed parties, or anywhere else in need of some terrifying décor.
05. “Bloody” Eyeballs
This is another DIY perfect for a haunted house or horror party. You can’t go wrong with bloody eyeballs! The way they’re arranged as part of a bouquet is perfect too; gift them to your horror-loving best friend or partner!
06. Radioactive Spider Jar
This DIY project might be more “spooky” than it is “horror”, depending on your definition of horror or your preferred subgenre. But if mad scientist, unethical experiments, and basement dungeons are your vibe, this jar of radioactive spiders will be a perfect DIY for you! And, of course, you can make radioactive jars filled with more than just spiders! Fake eyeballs and other plastic body parts are also good candidates for a project like this.
07. Burlap Scarecrow Mask
This scarecrow mask is the stuff of horror films. The workmanship is amazing, and this tutorial shows you exactly how to make one of your own. You can use it as a mask or prop it up like an actual scarecrow. Or make two and do both!
08. Skull Candle Holders
This is another super simple DIY that you can tackle with dollar-store products. This is awesome for dungeon, crypt, and similar themed décor. Instead of a flat grey spray paint, why not use a textured paint that would make them look more like stone? Something like this would work well.
09. Gothic Decoupage Eggs
I love these eggs – and you can make them with whatever type of imagery best suits your taste. It’s a simple project that doesn’t require many materials or any specialized equipment. This is a perfect project for repurposing those old plastic easter eggs you have lying around in storage!
10. Horror Villain Wall Art
This is an Etsy purchase, not a DIY tutorial, but it’s easy enough to construct! Go to the Lego store (if you have one near you), build some custom mini-figures, and grab a frame from the dollar store. You can also get a set of them on Amazon, like this set here.
11. Samuel Cross Stitch Project
Love cross stitch? Then this is the horror project for you! Why not give it a try? It’s horrifyingly cute and would look fantastic on your wall.
12. Jar of Eyeballs Pendant
Pull this together in an hour or two with polymer clay, a small jar, and UV resin! You can get little jars with corks at Dollar Tree. If you can’t get to a Dollar Tree, you can get these 1ml mini glass jars or these cute rounded mini glass jars on Amazon.
13. Dripping “Blood” Choker Necklace
This “bloody” choker is both beautiful and horrible all at once. Add a little horror to your wardrobe! If you’re not into necklaces, you can take inspiration from this tutorial and make a bracelet, keychain, or headband instead.
