20 Spooky Halloween Crafts to Embrace the “Spirit” of the Season

Spooky season is near! Get into the “spirit” of the season with these 20 spooky Halloween crafts.

Halloween can be so much fun to decorate for. You can choose to go heavy on the dark and spooky of course, drawing inspiration from all things supernatural—ghosts and evil spirits, dark magic, and more. But you can also work from a cheerier angle; Halloween can be cute and cheery too!

Whichever way you choose to go, there are so many Halloween-themed projects for crafters like us to tackle.

I’ve compiled a list of 20 Halloween crafts that you’re sure to love. Some of them are spooky, and some of them are cute. As always, use these projects as a jumping-off point—never feel like you have to follow a tutorial exactly! That’s one of the amazing things about crafting projects. The finished product can be totally unique to you and your tastes!

Okay, time for the list.

Let’s get spooky and make some Halloween crafts!

20 Spooky Halloween Crafts to Embrace the “Spirit” of the Season

01. Colorful Cheesecloth Ghosts

Photo from Oh Yay Studio.

Who says Halloween crafts have to be strictly black, white, and red? Not me! Not only are these little ghosts downright adorable, but the pop of color just can’t be matched! They’re so cute you just might want to keep them up all year long!

02. Eyeball Wreath

Photo from Crayons and Cravings.

This is such a fun project and so easy to make. The post calls for 6 packages of plastic eyeballs but if I were making it, I’d get packages of ping pong balls and paint the eyes on myself. While it’s a little more time-consuming that way, it increases the customizability—and I love making one-of-a-kind projects!

03. Felt Frankenstein Doll

Photo from Mimi Boomhttps://tidd.ly/4cmqiW1.

I absolutely love little felt dolls and this mini Frankenstein is no exception. Look at his little stitches! His “torn” clothes! The details on this tiny doll are fantastic. Make a bunch and turn them into a Frankenstein garland—or if give them to trick-or-treaters if you don’t normally get a lot of kids to your door. (Although next year, you’ll get more if you do this!)

04. Crochet Ghosts

Photo from AQCrochets.

“Cute” ghosts are my favorite ghosts—and look at these little guys! They make me want to learn how to crochet. (Or find someone who already knows how so they can make them for me!) That candy corn hat is so freaking adorable. Cute Halloween is my vibe.

05. Crystal Ball Candlesticks

Photo from Flamingo Toes.

These are so cool. They’d make great Halloween décor for a haunted house—or just your regular house, if you’d prefer! They have a witchy feel to them that I really like, and they’re both simple and fairly quick to assemble. Definitely worth a try!

06. Felt Voodoo Dolls

Photo from Cute Pattern UA.

These are more of that creepy cute I love so much. They’d go great with the Frankenstein doll earlier on the list. I wouldn’t recommend that you use them as actual voodoo dolls… but hey, you do you.

07. Gilded Insect Plaques

Photo from The Gathered Home.

I love this project because it’s so versatile. You can make these insects, but you can also apply gold paint to plastic skulls and bones and make something a little more “spooky”. This would also be a great non-Halloween project if you have a very classic-looking office or home library.

08. Pumpkin Wreath

Photo from It’s Always Autumn.

This pumpkin wreath is another cozy Halloween make that I love. The materials are easy to find and inexpensive (three out of the four materials on the list are all dollar-store finds!). Assembly is pretty quick, and the finished project is oh-so-cute. Why not make an extra to gift to one of your Halloween-loving friends?

09. Spooky Wall Art

Photo from Musings of Mei Mei.

This “spooky” wall art is lots of fun and easy to make. (Of course, if you don’t want to DIY it, you can buy the one pictured from MusingsofMeiMei on Etsy!) You can find similar files on Creative Fabrica and create something in Canva. You can make it for yourself, but you can also make some Halloween wall art to sell on Etsy or at local markets.

10. Halloween Candy Jar

Photo from A Pumpkin and a Princess.

This Halloween candy jar is awesome for classrooms, workplaces, and Halloween parties. (Although I could do without the candy corn—I am not a fan! How about you?) And of course, while this is a Halloween-themed example, why not make some for other holidays? An adorable red & green one for Christmas, a red one for Valentine’s Day, etc. Maybe even make one with your favorite colors and keep it at your desk so you have treats while you work!

11. Faux Cement Skull Planters

Photo from It’s Always Autumn.

These skull planters are perfect for Halloween. Plus, they’re budget-friendly—most of the materials come from Dollar Tree! They have a classic, marble-bust vibe that I absolutely love. Honestly, they’d look good all year round on a bookshelf, surrounded by horror novels!

12. Bat Plushie Pattern

Photo from 10×2 Studio.

Yes, another sewing pattern—because look how cute these little bats are! This is a simple sewing pattern suitable for beginners and up. Lean them against some other Halloween décor, or give them as Halloween gifts to your kids, nieces and nephews, or grandkids.

13. Ghost Polymer Clay Earrings

Photo from SweetLoveClay.

‘We can’t forget Halloween jewelry—and these polymer clay earrings are perfect to wear during spooky season! You can find similar polymer clay cutter STL files from Creative Fabrica (Ghost Cutter Here and Daisy Cutter Here) but you can also buy premade clay cutters on Etsy. Or, if you don’t want to buy the cutters and you’d rather just buy finished earrings, grab SweetLoveClay’s premade ghost earrings.

14. Crochet Halloween Garland

Photo from Mufficorn.

As far as Halloween crafts go, this should be high on your list if you crochet! This Halloween garland crochet pattern is another pattern that makes me wish I knew how to crochet. (Maybe it is time to learn!) And while I’m not a fan of eating candy corn, I have nothing against decorating with it!

15. Halloween Paper Lanterns

Photo from Burton Avenue.

These spooky Halloween paper lanterns are a great project if you’re looking for something to add to your bookshelves or set out in your windows. Of course, because the lanterns are paper, make sure you’re putting fake candles inside, not real ones! You’ll want a paper cutter for this craft, like a Cricut or Silhouette. You could probably do without it, but it would be a pretty tedious cutting project!

16. Floating Witch Hat Luminaries

Photo from Polkadot Chair.

Need some outdoor-friendly décor? Check out these floating with hat luminaries! They’re perfect for out on your front porch. They’d also be great for a Harry Potter or magical-themed party, even outside of the Halloween season!

17. Bat Plushie

Photo from Choly Knight.

Another bat plushie? Yes, but, it’s easy to see why! This one is great if you’re looking for a new project you can use your embroidery machine for. Not only that, but the pattern and the embroidery files are free so this is great if you’re looking for something budget-friendly. Make the bat skeleton version for something a little quirkier.

18. Faux Rusted Halloween Sign

Photo from Burton Avenue.

Here’s another great option if you’re looking for something both indoor and outdoor-friendly. This faux rusted Halloween sign is a lot of fun, and if you seal it you can prop it out on your porch. Or, if you don’t want to put it on your porch, why not set it in your window where everyone passing by your house can still enjoy it?

19. Beaded Spiders

Photo from One Little Project.

These beaded spiders remind me of the beaded animals I used to make all the time with pony beads in the 90s. (Do you remember those lizards, bees, and butterflies?) These are tons of fun, and you can make them in a variety of colors and sizes depending on the beads you use. And if you use wire, you can wrap their little legs around things and have them hanging from the curtains, hooked on drink glasses, and really wherever else you can think of!

20. Halloween Village

Photo from Pretty Life Girls.

Why should Christmas be the only holiday with seasonal village décor? It shouldn’t! This Halloween village is such a fun idea, and you can make it cute-spooky, or real-spooky! (Maybe even horror-inspired!) Or make yourself a little village that’s suitable for all year long and make seasonal décor that you can switch out. Either way, give this project a try!
